Narysec Learnership Programme.
The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DOR) is a sub-department of the South African Government. It was established in June 2019 by merging the agricultural functions of the former Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries with those of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform. This department facilitated, coordinated and implemented the programme of the DRDLR, in collaboration with other national, Provincial and local structures.
Narysec Learnership is a 24-month skills development programme implemented by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, which is aimed at providing employment opportunities to unemployed rural youth aged 18-25 who are in grade 12 or above from deprived rural wards. Established in September 2010, the programme has so far recruited 16,178 rural youth across all nine provinces. Through a range of skills development initiatives, the programme works in collaboration with other government and private sector institutions to develop the skills of the targeted participants. This is part of the strategy to transform the rural economy.
