Gibela is a black economic empowerment (BEE) rail transport consortium comprising French rail company, Alstom (70%) and Ubumbano Rail (30%). Gibela’s mandate is to elevate South Africa’s commuter rail as the transport mode of choice. They are working hard to ensure that we revitalize the country’s rail sector while driving inclusive economic growth and uplifting communities. Their vision is to lead the revitalization of the South African railway sector and become a catalyst in PRASA’s endeavors to elevate commuter rail as a transport mode of choice for all people in urban areas.
The Gibela Learnership program is formally registered with the Department of Labour and comprises around 70% practical work and 30% theoretical learning. Many South African industries currently have a massive technical skills shortage government figures showed to help address this problem, Gibela has been working with the government to encourage students to choose and train for various disciplines. Learnerships are available in the following fields: Boilermaking/ Vehicle Building, Electrical, Electrical Fitting/ Millwrighting, Fitter and Turning/ Machining, Painting/ Blasting/ Gluing, Supply Chain, and Welding.
Gibela Learnership Requirements.
To be an eligible candidate to join the Gibela Learnership program. candidate must meet the following requirement to be considered:
- Completed Matric or equivalent Qualification.
- Degree/Technical qualification or equivalent qualification (advantageous)
- Advanced Computer Literacy.
- Valid South African Drivers Licence will be advantageous
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Gibela Learnership Stipend.
The successful candidate will receive a monthly minimum learnership stipend that covers expenses such as travel and meals for the entire period of the program commenced.
