Department of Tourism Learnership
Department of Tourism is a government department that helps promote and develop tourism in South Africa. Department of Tourism promotes quality tourism products and services, promotes growth in and development of the tourism sector, and enhances cooperation and coordination between all spheres of government in developing and managing tourism. The department’s Mission is to grow an inclusive and sustainable tourism economy through good corporate and cooperative governance, strategic partnerships and collaboration, innovation and knowledge management, and effective stakeholder communication to Lead sustainable tourism development for inclusive economic growth in South Africa.
Department of Tourism Learnership is a skills development program to address skills shortages in the tourism sector by capacitating unemployed youth and graduates. The programs help to enhance and upskill the youth to make a meaningful contribution to the economy of the country. Recently the Department of tourism offered the Hospitality Youth Training Programme which will last for 12 months programme provides training in Food and Beverage Management. Learners who complete the program attain a National Certificate in Food and Beverage Management NQF level 4. The program is targeted at unemployed youth.
Department of Tourism Learnership Requirements.
For the ideal candidate to be selected to take part in this program, there are minimum eligibility criteria required to have as follows:
- Matric qualification or equivalent qualification.
- National diploma or degree in the relevant field (where applicable).
- Proof of residence, and any other relevant certificate/s.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Fluency in communicating in English.
- Good Computer literacy in MS Office, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and
- MS Access.
- Candidates who have previously participated in the Department’s learnership or skills programs should declare it in the motivational letter.
- A valid driver’s license will serve as an advantage.
- South African citizens between the age of 18-35
- Must hold a valid ID document.

Department of Tourism Learnership Closing Date.
The closing date at which applications must be submitted will be available on the relevant position adverts post where citing the start and end date of each period learnership application to be considered.
Department of Tourism Learnership Stipend.
The candidate will be paid the minimum monthly student allowance known as the Learnership Stipend, which is expected to be paid to all successfully recruited candidates in the Learnership Program for the entire duration of the program, covering expenses such as travel and food.
