Blasting Certificate Learnership Programme
A blasting certificate of competency (also known as a blasting license) is a certificate of competence issued to a qualified person who can be legally appointed to carry out the duties of a miner (or a blaster) in a South African mine by the rules and regulations set out in the mine health and safety law. A blasting certificate of competency can be divided into three distinct categories: a certificate for fiery mines, a certificate for schedule mines (other underground mines than underground coal mines), and a certificate for opencast mines.
The Blast Certificate Learnership is an enrichment programme designed for candidates who are required to complete a specified number of practical mine shifts and other application requirements before applying to become a candidate. Upon completion of the programme, the candidate will be subject to an assessment (oral and written) to determine their competency. Upon successful completion of the assessment, a certificate of competence will be issued. This program will provide the candidates with the opportunity to develop their skills through both classroom and field instruction in surface mining.
