ELET ECD Learnership
Environment and Language Education Trust (ELET) was founded as the English Language Education Trust in January 1984s as a consequence of an initiative by the Urban Foundation and multiple meetings of members from the Departments of Education functioning in the province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The convener was Professor Keith Chick, the head of the Department of Applied Linguistics and Teaching English as a Second Language. After numerous conversations, the idea for an English Resource centre emerged. With funding from Anglovaal Ltd. and Mervin Ogle serving as its first director, the concept of an English Resource Centre was born and the English Language Education Trust was established.
ELET ECD Learnership programme develops pathways for young people by providing enhanced business acumen thereby providing links to other economic opportunities. The ECD learnership program meets this need, allowing Creches and Grade R faculties to expand by absorbing more unemployed youth and women. It also supplements the national youth employment initiatives from the national government viz, the National Youth Service, Community Works Programme (CWP) and the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention. Through the 12-month internship program, students can improve their employment prospects in addition to acquiring the necessary skills.
